StarWomanPlus- What is inspiration to you? And how do you get inspired?

Rebecca Healy-

Art. People. Neighborhoods.Community. Dinner with Friends.

Books. I like to spend as much time outside and with people as possible - away from thecomputer screen.

SWP-Are you on a journey with destiny? What is the journey? What is your destiny?

RH-My values are practice, gatherings, and revolution. Under practice, I do things like meditate, run, eat healthy. These are private victories.

Under gatherings, I do things like build community, engage in really good conversations and spark dialogue. These are public victories.

Under revolution, I hope to change the world, inspire people to take action, and build movements. These are societal

victories.

SWP-Have doubt & faith affected your core/vision/mission/purpose? How?

RH- Oh, all the time! When we are not present with our purpose and values, things get very cloudy and difficult.

For me, this shows up as anxiety, but I've found that if I focus on my foundational practices, the rest seems easier, or at least, in balance.

SWP- You have an abundant plan for your life, right? How do you want to get there?

RH- I used to have a plan for everything, and I still do, but now I move slower. I take time to enjoy the "getting there" part. I hate to reinforce cliches, but when you can realize the abundance in the present (ie., enjoy the journey), you are already where you need to be.

SWP- Is whatever you are involved with an effective tool for change? In what ways should women maximize the abilities in their vision?

RH- The single best thing women can do is ask. Research shows that women expect good things to come to them because they act good. Women expect to be rewarded in a system that does not dole out rewards. So you must ask for what you want. You must be proactive. You must ask for the life that you envision - to your partner, your family, your boss, your grocer, your neighbor, and so forth. Get specific.

SWP-When did you begin to embrace and become aware of your purpose/vision?What was your reaction?

RH-For me, I'd probably identify that time as college, but even in high school I was doing things that were setting me up for a meaningful life. One of the best things we can do is look back at our journals and notes and

memories from when we were young and realize our desires are not that different now. Our purpose has always been within us.

SWP-How should our educational systems be involved in helping girls discover their purpose?

RH-This is such a huge and important question. Not sure I can answer it succinctly here.

SWP-Who are (is) your mentor(s)? What have you learnt from them?

RH-I have had several informal mentors over the years and in every case, they have taught me to *think bigger*.

They believed in my abilities when I did not.

SWP- Those times that seem as if nothing is working, how do you pull yourself through?

RH-I give myself time to be unhappy and frustrated. I don't believe life should be all happiness and rainbows, but rather, life is two sides of a coin, happy and sad, good and bad, and they are always linked. When we can see that the goal is not to be happy, that takes a lot of pressure off our stressors and anxiety. We're able to be upset, and then move on.

SWP- Share 5 quotes that have changed your life.

RH- ’cause I know the biggest crime is just to throw up your hands say this has nothing to do with me ,I just want to live as comfortably as I can you got to look outside your eyes you got to think outside your brain you got to walk outside you life to where the neighborhood changes...you’ve got your whole life to do something and that’s not very long so why don’t you give me a call when you’re willing to fight for what you think is real for what you think is right

Whatever may be the limitations

which trammel inquiry elsewhere, we believe that [you] should ever encourage that continual and fearless sifting and winnowing by which alone the truth can be found.

We are what we repeatedly do.

Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.
